Resilience Isn’t What You Think

When people talk about resilience, they often picture strength, grit, and a polished kind of courage. But I’ve learned that real resilience rarely looks put together. It’s messy. It’s tear-streaked faces and shaky breaths. It’s showing up when everything inside you wants to quit.

For years, I thought being resilient meant holding it all together—never letting anyone see me break. After Michael’s death, that illusion crumbled. Grief didn’t just break me; it shattered me. And in the pieces, I realized that resilience isn’t about never breaking. It’s about choosing to rise, piece by piece, day by day, even when you don’t know how.

Unbroken is full of those moments—raw, unfiltered, and painfully real. It’s not a book about becoming fearless; it’s about learning that courage often feels like fear, but you keep moving anyway.

I wrote this book because I know so many of us are quietly holding it all together for everyone else. We’re exhausted. We’re hurting. And yet, we keep showing up. This book is a love letter to that quiet, stubborn strength. It’s proof that you don’t have to be perfect to be powerful—you just have to keep going.

If you’ve ever felt like your strength wasn’t enough, I hope these pages remind you that you are stronger than you know. Resilience isn’t pretty, but it’s real. And it’s yours.
